PathLight Speaker Series with Dr. Kara Powell

On October 13th, 2021, PathLight Co-founder Roy Goble, author of Junkyard Wisdom: Resisting the Whisper of Wealth in a World of Broken Parts, had the privilege of hosting Dr. Kara Powell for an important discussion on how wealth impacts kids, and what we can do about it.

Kara is the Chief of Leadership Formation at Fuller Theological Seminary, as well as the Executive Director of the Fuller Youth Institute. She is also the author or co-author of several books related to raising healthy teens, including her latest, 3 Big Questions That Change Every Teenager (2021).

The discussion addressed questions that most all parents in the US share. Such as:

  • how empathy and compassion become something we train our teens to practice
  • the influence of your children’s peers on wealth and materialism
  • how social media drive some of the materialistic/consumeristic mindset of teens

There was a ton of wisdom shared during the conversation. We also described a unique opportunity for you and your family to join us in Belize next to summer to continue the dialogue.

We are grateful to Kara for sharing her time and sound advice with us. If you missed it, you can see the full conversation below. And many of you who joined us asked for a copy so you could go back and listen again.

As you watch, be sure to find out why Roy says that generosity is messy.
