Why we do it
THE CHALLENGE:
Worldwide, over 120 million children do not receive primary education.
Nearly a billion people entered this century without the ability to read a book or sign their name. Two thirds are women
In Latin America alone, over 20 million children live on the streets.
Half of the world’s children, over a billion boys and girls, live in poverty.
And that’s just a few disturbing statistics. For the majority of children in the world, decent health care and nutrition are mere myths, basic justice is unavailable, and clean water is a daily pursuit. The threat of HIV/AIDS, human trafficking, child labor and child abuse are rising each year.
A child that grows up without an education has fewer choices and little hope for escaping the cycle of poverty that may have been passed down for several generations. But knowledge is powerful. With a strong education that same child can not only help herself, but also her family and community. And when education is combined with a knowledge of Jesus Christ, the effect is miraculous. The impact of our work will not be seen overnight, but in the years ahead, when the children we touch become the doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers and leaders of their own communities - it will be transformational
